Shincliffe Parish Council
Welcome to your
Parish Council
Shincliffe Parish Council is made up of 7 councillors, who are all volunteers, and a Parish Clerk who provides independent, objective and professional advice to ensure that the council conducts its business properly and enables the smooth running of Parish affairs.
The purpose of a Parish Council is to represent the community on issues and aspirations that are held important, to deliver services to meet local needs and to enhance community well-being. As a Parish council, we are committed to providing an excellent service to the community; we continue to welcome and increase community engagement and strive to provide value for money.
Our Mission Statement is here.
Parish Councillors
RESPONSIBILITIES
The range of services and amenities provided by Local Councils varies enormously but all contribute to the primary roles of the Council.
These responsibilities are to:
- improve and maintain local services and facilities
- support local voluntary organisations and activities
- influence and lobby on local development and services
Shincliffe Parish Council operates a committee system which enables members to consider more complex issues in some detail at committee level. Each committee has a Chairman who has been nominated and voted for by his/her councillor colleagues.
Recommendations from committees are presented to the full Council for approval (or otherwise). Decisions are founded on majority vote from all councillors present at the meeting at which the decision is made.
The council has two principal committees. The Finance Committee meets quarterly and the Horticulture Committee meets bi-monthly. There are also two other committees, a Climate Action Committee and a Parish Resilience Forum, which meet when needed.
Further detail regarding the role of each committee can be found on our Your Parish Council page.
The full Council meets monthly (no August meeting).
Agenda for each meeting are issued a minimum of three clear working days before the meeting is due to take place.
